On Monday night and into the early hours of Tuesday morning of 2020.06.06 the Gloria Victis Confederate monument, also known as ‘Fame’, was removed from its pedestal.

The monument, depicting an angel and a soldier, was dedicated in 1909 by the Robert F. Hoke Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy after the city of Salisbury granted an easement of land. The piece was made by Frederic Wellington Ruckstuhl. The sculptor was French with a studio in NYC and cast the monument in Brussels in 1891. Fame had a sister monument in Baltimore, the Confederate Monument to Soldiers and Sailors, which was removed in 2017.
